For a question, a rule that plays differently from your table at home, or an idea, use Settings › Send feedback in the app. No email or account is needed, and we read every message.
Three rule sets
- Keezen, as played in the Netherlands and Flanders: no jokers, no exchange, and a seven split over at most two pawns.
- Dog, as played in Switzerland and Germany: jokers, a card exchanged with your partner every deal, the king may also move 13, and a seven captures every pawn it passes.
- Tock, as played in Quebec and the rest of Canada: a card exchanged with your partner, and you can't capture your own team.
The first time you open the app it picks the rule set of your region. Change it on the New game card. Each rule set has its own page under Rules, with a board diagram.
4 or 6 players
With 4 players you and your partner play against two opponents. With 6 players there are three teams of two. You always sit at the bottom of the board; your partner sits opposite you.
Your partner
Your partner is always the strongest computer player: it avoids sending your pawns home, helps your pawns into home, and plans its cards ahead. Choose how strong the opponents are (easy, normal or strong) on the New game card.
Sometimes the rules leave a player only one legal move, even one that sends a team pawn back to its kennel. When that happens to your partner, the app says so: “Partner: this was the only possible move”.
House rules
Every table has its own customs. Open House rules from the home screen to change them for each rule set: whether the king may move 13, how many pawns a seven may be split over, whether a seven captures the pawns it passes, whether you may capture your own team, whether a pawn may go round again when it can't enter home exactly, the Canadian seven, and exchanging a card with your partner. “Restore standard rules” puts them back.
Playing a turn
- Tap a card. Pawns that can move with it light up; cards that can't be played are dimmed.
- Tap a pawn to see where it would land, then tap the hole to play.
- Seven: pick pawns and step counts until all seven steps are used, then tap Confirm.
- Jack: tap your pawn, then the pawn to swap with.
- When no card can be played, the app says so and you discard your cards for this deal.
Leaving and coming back
The game is saved after every move. Close the app at any time; Continue on the home screen picks up exactly where you stopped.
Report this move
If a computer player made a move that looks wrong, long-press that move in the strip of last plays under the header and choose Report this move. It sends that game's record to us, anonymously, so we can improve the computer players.
Fair dealing
Cards are shuffled at random and dealt as they come. The computer players never see your cards or the draw pile.
